North Platte River Fishing Report

(Grey Reef, Fremont Canyon, Miracle Mile) 9/20/22

Grey Reef:

Flows- 500 CFS

Fishing Report- The Reef is right where we want it to be. Now that flows have dropped to 500 CFS, they will most likely remain there until the spring. Caddis and BWO patterns are working best on the nymph rig at the moment, specifically the Peeping Caddis and TFP Crust Nymph BWO. Start with 4 ft to an AB or BB and adjust from there.  We are most excited to report that dry fly fishing is here! Hoppers with a Caddis dropper are fishing well. The tried-and-true Elk Hair Caddis has also been a favorite as well as the Extended Body BWO. There is suspended moss at the top of the Reef, but things have cleared up past Government Bridge.

Miracle Mile:

Flows- 600 CFS

Fishing Report- Flows at the Mile have fluctuated slightly over the last few days. They are currently sitting at 600 CFS which is slightly higher than last week. We foresee flows will stay between 550 and 600 CFS through the winter. The nymph rig is the most productive method with Caddis and BWO patterns. Start with 4 ft to an AB or BB and adjust from there. With flows, being low, be mindful of the rocky sections of the Mile if you are floating.

Fremont Canyon:

Flows- 85 CFS

Fishing Report- Fremont was slightly dropped from 90 CFS to 85 CFS. Caddis, small black midges, and rock worms have been most productive on the nymph rig. Just a reminder that Kortes Road is under construction, so leave a little more room for travel time than usual.

The Big Horn:

Flows- 1,050 CFS

Fishing Report- The Big Horn has been fishing very well lately. Barr’s Emerger, the Jackson MacGruber, and Caddis have all been productive on the nymph rig. The Big Horn is still fishing well with both dry flies and nymph rigs. With that being said, we are hearing reports of increased moss on this section.
