North Platte River Fishing Report

(Grey Reef, Fremont Canyon, Miracle Mile) 9/9/22

Grey Reef:

Flows- 1,750 CFS

Fishing Report- The Reef was dropped over the last few days, and we anticipate it will continue to drop over the next few days until it hits 500 CFS. The top of the Reef is fishing best at the moment. There is some floating moss present below Sechrist making it difficult to chuck streamers. As far as nymphing goes, wine San Juan Worms, Bird’s Nest Caddis, and Galloup’s Caddis are the A game. There is some Trico action still happening in the mornings. Start with 4 ft to an AB or BB and adjust from there.

Miracle Mile:

Flows- 530 CFS

Fishing Report- The Mile has been moving at around 530 CFS for a while now. Water temperatures have been closely monitored given the recent heat wave, but the current cooler temperatures should heavily increase productivity. The Mile is fishing very similar to the Reef with wine San Juan Worms and Bird’s Nest taking the cake. There has also been some luck on rock worms. Start with 4 ft to an AB or BB and adjust from there.

Fremont Canyon:

Flows- 90 CFS

Fishing Report- Fremont was also recently dropped from around 300 CFS to 90 CFS. Caddis, small black midges, and rock worms have been most productive on the nymph rig. Just a reminder that Kortes Road is under construction, so leave a little more room for travel time than usual.

The Big Horn:

Flows- 1,170 CFS

Fishing Report- The Big Horn has been fishing very well lately. Barr’s Emerger, the Jackson MacGruber, and Caddis have all been productive on the nymph rig. If you are looking to get into some dry fly action, the Big Horn may be the best bet. Hoppers and hopper droppers have consistently been fishing well over the last couple of weeks. Start with 4 ft to an AB or BB and adjust from there.

Carp:

Pathfinder Reservoir has turned over, so it looks like we are at the end of Carp season.
