Fishing Report 08/15/2018
Current CFS.
- The Grey Reef is at 2,000 CFS.
- The Miracle Mile is at 800 CFS
- Fremont Canyon is at 70 CFS
Mid August has had its ups and downs. Some anglers have had some amazing days and some have reported slow days. Nymphing, as always, is the most consistent way to bring fish to the net, but a few anglers have had some awesome days fishing hoppers and streamers. Productive times have been in the early morning and evenings as things are cooled off. We all as fisherman should avoid fishing midday as temperatures soar, and also should avoid handling fish more than is necessary.
Hoppers are here!
Hopper fishing is starting to heat up, and as summer progresses we can expect the hopper bite to get better and better. The fish have been keying in on a specific color and size hopper, so having a well-stocked hopper box is a must. Anglers have also been taking quite a few fish when fishing hopper-dropper rigs with any productive nymph pattern 18″ to 30″ below.
Tricos
Tricos; a love/hate relationship with many anglers. With other bugs such as hoppers and PMD’s around it is easy to overlook the minuscule trico, but you shouldn’t. Tricos provide us with some of the most consistent dry fly fishing of the year. Look for risers in slick-water in the early mornings and late evenings, and if you find them you should be in for a good time.
Nymphing:
Fishing has been productive with PMD, CADDIS, MIDGE, and TRICO patterns. Rigs (4-6 feet) having been working well with a B-AB weight.
