Here we go- 2025 is upon us the fishing season continues.
We have had a brief blip of winter showing up after a very mild December. The river further down is just now seeing floating ice flows. Most years it is fully frozen and locked up solid all but the upper portion. I suspect sooner than later this will be the case, but for now access is good. The action is still primarily Reef to Lusby zone. It has been fishing pretty well. Standard North Platte generic rigs are working. So, point flies of worms, leeches and prospecting with midge and small nymph patterns (Mayhems, RS2’s, Zebra, Darth Baetis, and smaller rock worms) will get you in the hunt. Great time to break out the streamers. Vary retrieve speed and depth. Old standbys- Ditch Witches, Rusty Trombones, Dungeons, and Wooley Bugger Changer. Go with your confidence streamers and keep at it. Not always the path to numbers, but a great way to find some quality fish and some of the best, most consistent streamer fishing of the season.
The Mile has been a good option as well. Getting in so far with a mild winter has been already. Similar rig as the Reef, and some nice fish to be found up there as always.
Reports off Fremont have been positive. Small and buggy, see above for midge patterns have been producing. A great quick option and crowds have been minimal and manageable.
So far it has been a great winter to get out there and some really good days. Take advantage, winter will set in. We have a great “Super Bowl” guide special to help get you back on the river. Here is to a great 2025 and thanks again for all the support. We look forward to helping you with all your North Platte fishing adventures.
