Fall fishing on the North Platte River is still going strong, and October continues to deliver. Grey Reef has been fishing well, with trout transitioning into fall feeding patterns.
We’ve had plenty of questions about grass in the system lately. Expect some grass. However, it hasn’t been nearly as bad as we expected. Considering the low water and warm temperatures earlier this season, we’re actually seeing slightly less grass than we typically see around this time of year. Conditions remain fishable, so don’t let a little grass keep you off the water.
Caddis are tapering off, while BWO and midge patterns are becoming more important. Worms and leeches remain reliable options. Smaller Thin Mint and bugger-style streamers still produce, especially when trout want a little extra movement.
The Miracle Mile is starting to pick up, though fishing can still be inconsistent. Expect similar fly patterns to Grey Reef as fall progresses. Fremont Canyon has also seen some good fishing, with midges and BWO patterns doing much of the work.
