Quick Report 07/29/2026

Just popping in with a quick update on the Grey Reef. Flows have been dropped to 800 CFS. While the river is still fishing well, the lower flows combined with warm temperatures in the forecast mean it’s time to be a little more mindful of conditions on the water.

The good news is that all the bugs and tactics from our last report are still producing. Tricos remain a great option in the mornings, while PMDs, caddis, and Yellow Sallies continue to keep fish feeding throughout the day. If you’ve been finding success lately, there’s no reason to reinvent the wheel.

As temperatures climb, focus your efforts on the upper river closest to the dam where the water stays coldest. Early mornings and late evenings will offer the best conditions for both anglers and trout. A few simple adjustments can also help reduce stress on fish during the warmest part of the summer. Consider fishing slightly heavier tippet to shorten fight times, keep fish in the water whenever possible, and make quick releases a priority.
