Fishing around Casper continues to be solid as we move through summer.
Grey Reef is fishing well right now. We are still seeing solid activity with Caddis, PMDs, and Yellow Sallies on the warmer days. The Reef is still moving at 500 CFS and we’re finding the best conditions closer to the dam where the water is staying cool and clean.
Fremont Canyon is seeing caddis and PMDs as well and continues to fish at its typical summer flows. If you’re looking for cool water and willing trout, the Canyon has been a great option lately.
The Miracle Mile is producing the same hatch activity, but we’ve backed off spending much time up there for now. With flows still around 500 CFS, we’re remaining mindful of water temperatures and focusing our efforts elsewhere.
As we move deeper into summer, it’s a good reminder for all anglers to pay attention to water temperatures, especially during the warmest parts of the day. Early mornings and stretches closer to the dam can offer some fantastic fishing while helping keep our trout healthy. We are waiting for our friends to the East to call for water, which we foresee will happen soon enough. Until then, keep a thermometer handy.
