The North Platte is settling in.
The Grey Reef is currently moving at 500 CFS, and the mix of warm afternoons and surprisingly cool days has created some interesting hatch activity. The cooler weather has also helped keep water temperatures in great shape and water quality clean. On warmer days, we’re seeing solid caddis activity with some PMDs mixed in. When temperatures dip, BWOs continue to make appearances. Most of the action is still sub-surface.
Up at the Miracle Mile, fishing has been about what you’d expect. It’s not producing huge numbers, but we are still finding quality trout. Hatch activity has been just as sporadic as it has been downstream, so staying flexible throughout the day is important. We are even seeing some suckers starting to move. Quick reminder for anyone planning a float trip: under the current regulations, boats cannot be launched above the bridge at the Miracle Mile. Make sure to plan accordingly before heading out.
Fremont Canyon continues to fish well at its normal flow of 75 CFS. After a little rain the last week, the canyon has remained clean. Caddis, PMDs, some midge action, and even rock worms are doing the trick.
We are hoping to see some water here soon enough. Nebraska has yet to put in their call, which is why we have remained at lower flows. Only a matter of time! Until then, keep an eye on water temperatures and spend more time out in the cooler hours of the day.
