Fishing around Casper continues to hold steady despite Wyoming’s unpredictable weather.
The Grey Reef is currently running at 500 CFS, and the combination of cool days and occasional warm spells has kept anglers guessing. The good news is that the cooler temperatures have helped maintain cold, clear water throughout the system. Hatches have been somewhat scattered, but we are seeing Caddis and PMDs on the warmer afternoons, while BWOs continue to pop off during the cooler stretches.
The Miracle Mile remains the Mile. It isn’t a lights-out numbers game right now, but there are still some tough, healthy trout being caught if you’re willing to work for them. We are seeing the same sporadic hatches up this way, so be sure to have a mix of bugs in your box! Outside of that, simple leeches and worms can also turn some heads.
Fremont Canyon is doing exactly what Fremont Canyon does this time of year. Flows are holding around 75 CFS, and fishing has been very similar to what we’re seeing at Grey Reef. Throw some rock worms or even some little Thin Mints in the mix and you’re set.
We’re hopeful for additional water moving forward. As always, pay attention to current flow reports and regulation changes before making plans.
