Coming at you with a quick North Platte fishing report. Grey Reef and the Miracle Mile are both hovering around 500 CFS. These flows are wadable and floatable, though better numbers are being found from the boat.
A little grass is still being seen throughout the system. That is to be expected after the warm summer we had. That said, as things cool off, we are seeing less and less. Fishing has been solid, with leeches and worms doing plenty of the heavy lifting. Midges and BWO patterns are also getting the job done. Smaller streamers are still outproducing the big articulated stuff, so keep things simple.
The Miracle Mile is fishing well, but a little planning goes a long way this time of year. Before heading out, check the weather forecast. Rain and snow can make the Mile road muddy and difficult to navigate. Cell service is also limited once you’re back there, so plan accordingly. Better safe than sorry.
Fremont Canyon is holding at its typical 75 CFS. Similar patterns are producing, with most of the action happening below the surface.
Overall, fall fishing on the North Platte River is looking good. Whether you’re floating Grey Reef, exploring the Mile, or fishing Fremont Canyon, now is a great time to get out.
