The Fourth of July is one of our favorite times of year in Wyoming. Whether you’re coming to Casper to fish, camp, spend time with family, or just enjoy a long weekend outdoors, there are a few things worth knowing before you hit the road.
1. The Ugly Bug Fly Shop Will Be Closed on July 4th
Our crew will be taking the holiday off to spend time with friends and family. The shop will be closed on July 4th, but we’ll be here and ready to help with all your fishing needs on July 3rd and July 5th. Need a fishing license? Flies? River reports? Last-minute gear? Stop by before or after the holiday and we’ll get you taken care of.
2. Be Extremely Careful With Fire
If you’ve been following our reports, you know Wyoming is dealing with drought conditions. While we are not currently under a full fire ban, conditions remain very dry and fire danger is high. High winds, low humidity, and warm temperatures create a recipe for disaster when combined with fireworks or unattended campfires. It’s also important to note that much of Natrona County, including Casper, is under temporary fireworks restrictions. Aerial and ground fireworks are not permitted in Casper and most of Natrona County. We all enjoy celebrating Independence Day, but we also love our public lands and open spaces. Please do your part to help keep them safe.
3. Fishing? Check conditions, know your water, and brush up on regs
Water temperatures are looking much better, but there are still some lingering effects from last week’s blowout. If you’re heading out, the upper river continues to have the coolest temperatures and the cleanest water conditions. Also be aware that flows have increased on the Reef and Fremont. If you’re planning to wade, take a few extra minutes to know your flows before stepping in. And don’t forget to brush up on the 2026 fishing regulation changes before you hit the water.
4. Don’t Forget Your AIS Inspection and Sticker
Bringing a boat? Make sure your AIS inspection and Wyoming AIS sticker are taken care of before launching. We know inspections can add a few extra minutes between the truck and the boat ramp, but they’re one of the best tools we have for preventing invasive species from entering Wyoming waters. Protecting our fisheries is worth the extra effort.
5. Drive Safe and Drive Sober
The holiday weekend means more traffic on the roads, more boats at the ramps, and more people enjoying Wyoming’s outdoors. Give yourself extra time, watch out for other travelers, and make smart decisions. If you’re celebrating, have a plan to get home safely.
