The “Flush” wrapped up on March 26th. There has been some good fishing to be had on all the local waters.
The Reef
The Reef has been fishing well. Still “wormy” and “leechy” out there. Smaller rock worms and larger San Juan and squirm variations. Pine Squirrel and micro leech with and without hot head beads. Add in midges and the BWO’s will be picking up and mixing in smaller nymphs representing that hatch will become more prevalent. Some go to midge patterns are Mayhems, Graveyard, Theo’s N. Platte Emerger, and Thunders. To cover BWO, Little Green Machines, McGrubers, Darth Baetis and JuJu’s.
The Mile
The Mile has been good too. Similar flies to the reef. It is still that time of year and lots of rainbows are on the beds. Not to sound like a broken record, but please let them do their thing. Even if fish aren’t present on the redds ( the super clean gravel spots that are so clean they all but glow), wading on them can destroy spawning production. When the fish are done spawning it takes time for the eggs to develop (alevin) and fry. Wading on them kills that. Fish where they feed.
Fremont Canyon
Fremont is also picking up. Some good midge action and fish up in working. Look for the BWO to add to that. If you are seeing fish working, dry and a drop or fishing nymphs higher in the water column can help.
Things are really picking up, and we are all excited to have been getting out there and enjoying the good fishing. Feel free to stop in, call for real time updates, or to book a guide. It is time to cure that cabin fever!
