The first snow fall has came and went signifying that winter is here to stay. And that’s okay! On this tailwater fishery, the fishing is here to stay as well. Higher-than-usual temperatures have kept us away from the upper most section of the Reef for a few weeks due to some muck in the system. That said, we are pleased to report things have cleared up and we have been fishing from below the dam all the way through town. Leeches, worms, and small black midges have been doing the trick. On the warmer days, there have been a few BWOs coming off as well. As far as the Mile is concerned, we urge you to remain mindful about the redds from now through January. Even when the fish are done spawning, there are still viable eggs in the beds. To best avoid beds and spawning trout, focus on fishing deep pools and tail outs during this time. Rig wise, the menu at the Mile is the same as it is at the Reef. Streamers are also fishing well at the Mile- specifically whites, creams, or olives all with a touch of flash. Stay up to date on weather conditions when planning to hit the Mile as the road can become dicey with too much precipitation.
