NORTH PLATTE RIVER FISHING REPORT
The Grey Reef: 2400 CFS
After our water was bumped a few weeks back, the fish have re-acclimated and the Reef is fishing well! As of right now, Caddis and PMD patterns are doing the job. Specifically, the Purple Bird’s Nest Caddis and the Split Case PMD are our shop favorites; both are available in store and on our website. Along with that, we are pleased to see that Tricos are starting to come off in the morning and hoppers are starting to show face as well. Though the dry fly fishing is not quite constant at the moment, all signs are showing that it may be just around the corner.
The Miracle Mile: 1800 CFS
The Mile is still fishing! Coming off off the Golden Stone hatch, PMD and Yellow Sally patterns have been most productive. Specifically we have been liking the Split Case PMD and Gabriel’s Trumpet Yellow Sally; both are available in store or on our website.
Keep in mind that as the days are getting hotter, the water is getting warmer. Though we have been experiencing lower water temperatures compared to other river systems in the West, we advice airing on the side of caution when it comes to fish handling. Keep ’em wet! Also, keep in mind that due too warmer temperatures in the afternoon, fishing is often more productive in the earlier hours of the day.
