It looks like we will be seeing some warmer temperatures in the middle of this week, but winter has already made it’s grip on the river. The Platte is still fishing well for those nymphing and throwing streamers. Look for classic winter runs, with slow water where fish can sit without expending too much energy.
Nymphing:
Midges, baetis and worms have been the ticket for nymphing. Leeches and scuds should prove effective as well.
Recommended Flies:
- Midges (Pal, MacGruber, Mayhem) #18-20
- RS2 #18-20 (chocolate, gray)
- Rock Worm #14-18
- San Juan Worm
- Split Case BWO #16-20
- Barr’s BWO emerger #16-20
- Darth Baetis #18-20
- Scuds
- Squirrel Leeches #10-14
Streamer Fishing:
Streamer fishing has been fair to decent. Try the Rusty Trombone and Goldie.
Recommended Streamers:
- Rusty Trombone #4-8
- Articulated Goldie #4
- Articulated Ditch Witch Tan, Olive
- Bob’s Silver Bugger
- Thin Mint Bugger
- Galloup’s Peanut Envy
