The weather has been horrendous, but those who are braving the cold, wind and precipitation are being rewarded with awesome fishing. The weather looks better for this weekend, with warmer temperatures and clear skies. At the time of this report, the river is fishable until just after government bridge, but the water is expected to clear soon. The Miracle Mile is fishing well, but the road out there is very muddy.
Nymphing:
The fish have been eating small bugs such as midges and BWO’s very well. You may want to try some worm patterns below the creeks that are spilling out dirty water.
Recommended Flies:
- Midges (Pal, MacGruber, Mayhem) #18-20
- RS2 #18-20 (chocolate, gray)
- Rock Worm #14-18
- San Juan Worm
- Split Case BWO #16-20
- Barr’s BWO emerger #16-20
- Darth Baetis #18-20
Streamer Fishing:
Streamer fishing has not been great. A few fish have been caught on streamers, but they have not been very productive.
Recommended Streamers:
- Rusty Trombone #4-8
- Articulated Goldie #4
- Articulated Ditch Witch Tan, Olive
- Bob’s Silver Bugger
- Thin Mint Bugger
