You have got to love our wonderful Wyoming spring we have been having this year. We woke up to several inches of snow this morning with rain and more snow forecasted for the rest of the week. The Platte is fishing very well in spite of all of this, with high numbers of fish being caught on everything from midges to caddis to streamers.
Nymphing:
BWO’s and midges have been fishing well on the Grey Reef section, with some bigger bugs such as leeches and worms fishing well below Government Bridge.
Recommended Flies:
- Midges (Pal, MacGruber, Mayhem) #18-20
- RS2 #18-20 (chocolate, gray)
- Rock Worm #14-18
- San Juan Worm
- Split Case BWO #16-20
- Barr’s BWO emerger #16-20
- Darth Baetis #18-20
- Skinny Squirrel Leech #10-14
Streamer Fishing:
Streamer fishing has been fair to good, with some large browns and rainbows being caught. This cloudy weather has been making perfect conditions to strip some bugs.
Recommended Streamers:
- Rusty Trombone #4-8
- Articulated Goldie #4
- Articulated Ditch Witch Tan, Olive
- Bob’s Silver Bugger
- Thin Mint Bugger
