This time of year we do not have to stare at an indicator if we don’t want to. Streamers and dries/ dry-dropper rigs have been on fire, making fishing nymphs far less appealing. Nymphs are still fishing very well, but with the moss and streamer bite being hot, why fish nymphs?
Nymphing:
Blue Winged Olives and Caddis are very prevalent in the river right now, and if you are going to fish nymphs, you should have some in your box. Midges are also catching fish.
Recommended Flies:
- Midges (Pal, McGrubber, Mayhem) Size 18-20
- Crust Nymph Size 16-18
- RS2 Size 18-20
- McGruber PMD 18-20
- Mitchells Split Case PMD 18-20
- Bird’s Nest Caddis 14-18
- Split case BWO 18-20
Streamer Fishing:
Streamers are working very well, try a light sink-tip or versi-leader, as flows are low.
Recommended Streamers:
- Rusty Trombone Size 4-8
- Articulated Goldie Size Size 4
- Articulated Ditch Witch Tan
- Bob’s Silver Bugger
Hopper fishing:
Hoppers are still taking fish with the most effective rigs being hopper dropper setups with a caddis nymph as the dropper. Some anglers are running double hopper rigs, or a hopper with a smaller dry behind it.
Recommended Hoppers:
- Hi-Vis Hopper Tan (6-10)
- Mini Fomulator (14-16)
- Super Chernobyl (8-12)
- Chubby Cernobyl (6-12)
