Here’s a quick North Platte fishing report and conditions update.
Grey Reef has dropped to 500 CFS. Recent rain events have pushed color throughout the entire system, and conditions get progressively dirtier the farther downstream you travel. The stretch closest to the dam offers the cleanest water and the best fishing opportunities right now. Things should continue to improve over the next several days as the river settles and clears.
The voluntary closure below Lusby remains in effect. Lower flows have pushed water temperatures back to the top of our minds. Fish early, stay high in the system, and keep fish handling to a minimum.
The good news is that we still have options in the area. The Miracle Mile sits at 500 CFS and offers solid conditions. Caddis continue to lead the charge, while PMDs and Yellow Sallies also bring fish to the table. Most anglers are finding success below the surface, which is pretty typical for the Mile. As per usual, never a crazy numbers game, but good fish to be found.
Fremont Canyon continues to fish well at 75 CFS. Look for Tricos in the morning, followed by PMDs and caddis later in the day. Simple leeches and rock worms remain productive.
Summer is fading fast, and cooler fall temperatures sit on the horizon. We’re ready for it.
