Fishing Report 07/14/2026

It has been a hot stretch here in Wyoming, but thankfully the Grey Reef is still in good shape. Flows remain at roughly 2,200 CFS, and that extra water is continuing to help keep temperatures cool, especially in the sections closest to the dam. The fish seem happy with the conditions. The anglers? Maybe not quite as much.

Fishing has remained consistent for those willing to beat the heat. Tricos are still getting things started in the mornings, followed by PMDs, caddis, and Yellow Sallies as the day goes on. With the higher flows, worms, leeches, and crayfish patterns continue to be productive.  Water clarity continues to improve downstream, though the upper stretches are still fishing the best overall. Focus your efforts closer to the dam where water conditions are cool and clean.

We are using a lot of these same patterns up at the Mile as well as Fremont Canyon. The Mile is running clean at 1,000 CFS. The Mile is … being the Mile. Never a numbers game, but quality trout to be found. Fremont Canyon is currently sitting around 1,400 CFS, which is high for this stretch, but the fish seem to be settling into the new flows nicely.

Afternoon temperatures have been climbing, making those early morning and evening windows more important than ever. A quick reminder as we move deeper into summer: stay hydrated, wear your sun protection, and don’t be afraid to call it a day before the hottest part of the afternoon.

If you’ve been thinking about getting out on the North Platte, now is still a great time. Give the shop a call or stop by for the latest fishing report, fly recommendations, and current river conditions.
