We’ve got some good news on the North Platte!
As of Monday, June 15, Grey Reef received another bump in flows, bringing the river up to 1,000 CFS. Combined with a stretch of cooler weather and lower nighttime temperatures, this extra water has helped bring river temperatures back down after they had started creeping up in some sections.
The fishing has been good, and we expect it to stay that way. Early mornings are seeing strong Trico activity, followed by PMDs, caddis, and a few Yellow Sallies as the day progresses. Definitely worth keeping a little bit of everything in your fly box. We’re excited to see a little more water in the system, but always smart to keep mindful of water temperatures if you plan to go any lower than the Reef.
The Mile has been fishing as we expect. Never crazy numbers, but hearty fish nonetheless. If you cannot tell, the odd winter has moved our hatches earlier than we typically expect. If the stone’s follow the current trends, we expect to see some Goldens come off in the coming days. The water is staying pretty cool up that way. The Mile is not a long stretch of water, so it is being kept cool due to its proximity to the dam. Never hurts to temp it just to be sure.
