Happy dog days of summer! Honestly, not much has changed from the bug side of things. The Reef sits at 800 CFS, and the hatches have stayed consistent all summer. Expect tricos first thing in the morning, followed by caddis and yellow sallies. If you find fish keyed in on one of those bugs, don’t overthink it.
The recent stretch of cooler nights has helped, but water temperatures still deserve plenty of attention. Keep the voluntary hoot owl closure below Lusby in mind and plan your day accordingly. The fish are happiest early, and that’s when we’ve been seeing the best action anyway.
Up at the Miracle Mile, flows remain steady at 1,000 CFS. We’re seeing the same bug activity up there as we are on the Reef, and we’d still recommend focusing your efforts closer to the dam where the water stays coolest.
As for Fremont Canyon, we’ve mostly been giving it a break. At 80 CFS, that stretch heats up much faster than the Reef or the Mile, and we’re not seeing much reason to push it right now.
Bottom line… fishing remains solid across the system. Set that alarm clock, grab a coffee, and hit the water early. If you’re more of a night owl, the evening window has been plenty productive too. Either way, fish the cool parts of the day and keep an eye on those water temps.
