Fishing Report 12/02/2025

Happy December! Winter fishing is in full swing. With a light dusting of snow and temps cooling off, we are grabbing our streamer box and hitting the river. Here is our fishing report for the Grey Reef, Miracle Mile, Fremont Canyon, and the Big Horn.
The Grey Reef

The Reef has been fishing awesome as of late. Flows are at 500 CFS and will continue to be at that level, most likely the rest of the winter. Sticking to fishing more of the afternoons to late afternoon has been the most productive time of day. Fishing patterns like leeches, worms, and midges like the MacGruber or the Mayhem Midge have been the go-to as of late. If you want to find the big one fishing streamers such as the Rusty Trombone, Goldie and Ditch Witch is an awesome choice as well! We’ve been finding most of our fish in the deeper parts of the run/pool due to the most recent cold snap we’ve had here in Casper.

The Miracle Mile

The Mile has been picking up as of late, and we’re starting to see more fish move into the river from Pathfinder. Flows have been at 500 CFS and will continue to be at this flow throughout the rest of the winter. Fly choices and fly placement are pretty much the same as the Grey Reef.

Fremont Canyon

With the moss dying off at Fremont we have lots of fishable water on this stretch! If you’re looking for a boulder hopping experience with fantastic scenery, this is the place for you! The flow has been sitting at around 80 CFS and will stay at this flow all winter.

The Big Horn

If you’re looking for a change in scenery and fishing, just 2 hours north of Wyoming sits on the Bighorn River just outside of Thermopolis. The moss on this stretch has been dying off with the cold temps, so this water will start to open. The Bighorn is right at 600 CFS. As far as fly selection goes, it’s like the rivers around Casper. There are sow bugs in this river system so having a sowbug or two in your box when fishing the Bighorn is a must

If you have any more questions about our local fishery, give the shop a ring or come see us and we can set you up with flies and more. Stay safe out there, everybody!
