Jessica’s Pond Closure

Jessica's Pond

Jessica’s Pond Closure

The Casper Game and Fish has reported that Jessica’s pond is closed until further notice. The recent closure is due to the discovery of New Zealand mudsnails- an invasive species. The closure is precautionary due to the pond’s proximity to Speas Fish Hatchery.
What is a New Zealand Mudsnail?

Knew Zealand mudsnails are small aquatic snails. Known for their resiliency, they can make a quick home anywhere they land. They repopulate rapidly and can consume up to half of the available food of many insects. Given this fact, they can easily out compete other members of the food chain and ultimately disrupt the ecosystem. When found, water can be treated for NZMS.

What Can We Do?

To avoid the spread of invasive species in general, we can continue to practice CDD- Clean, Dry, Dry. Cleaning, Draining, and Drying your gear after accessing any water is imperative.

Other nearby fishing areas will remain open. Jessica’s pond is the only closure.
