July in Wyoming is about as good as it gets to be a trout bum. Our local watershed, the North Platte is fishing well. Summer weather is in full stride and winter is long forgotten and far enough in the future to not even worry about. It is fantastic. Add in rodeos, music, camping and all the other side action, it can be beat. .
A Warm Weather Option
As the heat continues this is the perfect time to head to the mountains and explore. Pull ot the maps, pick a river or a bunch of creeks you have never fished, load up some go to dries and hopper patterns and check off the “hit list’ of places you have been meaning to check out some day. Today is the day. The small streams and their simplicity and willingness of the fish to eat a well-placed dry is just straight up fun. Every now and again these places surprise you with a dandy of a fish that slides out from under the bank and crushes your fly. Watching a bigger than average fish tear up a pool on a small stream is just laugh –giggle fun.
How can we help?
We might not cough up all the names of these hidden little secret gems, but we can sure help pick out some flies or help with some regions to check out. If you are looking for a new 2,3, or 4 weight rod for small streams instead of a 5 or 6 weight, we have plenty of options at the Bug. Sage Darts and Orvis Super Fines are next level technical tools. For those looking to expand the quiver, but don’t want to invest as much on a small stream rod that might not see as many days on the water as their daily driver, Echo and Fenwick make some great options under and just above the $200 range. Always happy to have you come in, cast them and find one that is right for you.
One hundred percent recommend getting out there and enjoying summertime creek fishin’ in Wyoming. Better get it while you can, winter will be here and the summer goes by way too fast.
