Fly fishing with some Wyoming boys

635891780231576222479624780_48_Ap08T_Jackson_Hole_Fishing_Guides_mdHere is great article written by Tanner Bekke, about group of really “fishy” guys that live here in a Casper.

Baseball is known as America’s Favorite Past Time, but if you’re from Wyoming, the real past time is fly fishing in some of the greatest rivers this world has to offer. For a group of local Wyoming boys, this past time is slowly becoming much more than that — it’s becoming a lifestyle. Bambaloo is a group of anywhere from 3-5 guys in Casper, Wyoming and I was fortunate enough to sit down with John Fanto, Kody Luckow, and Connor Wetzel to talk about Bambaloo and fishing. Just listening to them talk about their passion of fly fishing was a truly unforgettable experience.

They have all been fishing since a very young age: Kody at age 5 and John at age 8. Connor got his first rod at age 7. Fishing wasn’t something they just picked up either, it’s a hobby that’s been passed down to them from their fathers, and grandfathers. John said, “My grandpa has been a huge inspiration to me.” He continued, “Everyone in my family loves it, even my mom tries it.” Since they were young boys fishing has been on their minds and it is something that means quite a lot to all of them. Kody the oldest of the three said quite beautifully, “It’s an art form.” They also practice what’s called catch and release, the act of catching your fish and just letting it go back down the river. They do this out of respect for the land, the fish, and other fisherman. Kody talks about how important catch and release is to all of them because, “Our goal is to help people in the fly fishing community catch the biggest, baddest fish in the river.” Connor discussed how sometimes it’s about being free and that when he’s on the river is when he feels he may be the closest to God.

It’s clear that fishing means a whole lot to the boys at Bambaloo but what is their goal with starting this little business? The answer is quite simple: They want to help people become better fisherman and show the world what Wyoming has to offer. That’s it. They aren’t in it for profit. In fact, this didn’t even start as a business idea. It started with a few guys who made an Instagram page in order to share their love of fishing with as many people as possible. Since then, they have earned just over 1500 followers and are starting to get recognized by some of the top fly fishing companies. But as I said this just isn’t about business for them. Connor, the newest addition to the Bambaloo crew, I think said it best about fishing and sharing that experience: “One less fish is one less story for someone else.” If you guys are interested in supporting these dudes or just want to see some impressive fish check out their Instagram page bambaloo_307.
